On Thursday, House Republicans released several records that exposed President Joe Biden for directly emailing his son Hunter's business partner at least 54 times while serving as vice president in the Obama administration.
According to the emails, President Biden emailed Eric Schwerin, who also served as his financial advisor from 2009 to 2017, dozens of times around the time Biden traveled to Ukraine in June 2014. According to NBC News, President Biden emailed Schwerin 35 times before and after his trip to Ukraine in 2014. The various emails between President Biden and Hunter's business associate occurred around the time that Hunter was appointed to the Burisma board.
The communications between the two men were released as a part of the House Republicans' ongoing impeachment inquiry of the elderly Democrat. More specifically, the release of the emails is in connection with IRS whistleblower Joseph Ziegler, who provided the documents to the House Ways and Means Committee. Ziegler explained earlier this year to Congress that “there were multiple emails found with Hunter Biden and his business associates."
Congress subpoenaed Hunter Biden to appear for a deposition earlier this month to answer questions related to these emails and various other questions that House Republicans had for the president's son. Unfortunately for the GOP, Hunter refused to comply with the subpoena and demanded to testify publicly rather than in a closed-door session.
In response to the blatant disregard for the congressional subpoena, Chairman Comer announced that he would depose the president's son and "be more than happy to have a public hearing with him" so that the American people can see the evidence for themselves. "We expect him to come in and be deposed. This is a normal process in an investigation," he explained. "This has been a serious, credible, transparent investigation from day one. We have published four bank memorandums. We've had countless press conferences."
"This is an investigation of public corruption at the highest levels. We've accumulated mountains of evidence that's concerning to an overwhelming majority of Americans. We have specific questions in there, and I think we are going to allow you in there to see the piles and piles of documents and bank statements and emails and text messages that we have worked very hard on in this committee over the last eight or nine months," Comer continued. "We expect to depose the president's son, and we will be more than happy to have a public hearing with him."
