BREAKING: CEO Chris Licht Is Leaving CNN Following Trump Town Hall

On Wednesday, it was reported that CEO Chris Licht was removed from his post at CNN after a 13 month stint at the network.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Licht took over the reins of the company more than a year ago with the goal of attempting to moderate the company after its reputation was in turmoil and its ratings were decimated after President Trump left the White House.

Upon taking over, Licht cancelled CNN's streaming platform, CNN+, leading to backlash from staffers and hosts alike.

Licht's most recent troubles come after CNN hosted a town hall in New Hampshire featuring 45th President Donald Trump, a move that was criticized by many within the network including personalities like Anderson Cooper.

"That anti-Licht sentiment is shared by many in the CNN rank and file, and has existed to some extent for months, but The Atlantic article cemented it [published this past weekend about the internal fallout in the company after Trump's town hall appearance]," former CNN personality Brian Stelter wrote. "In the words of three employees: 'He's over.' 'He's done.' 'There's no coming back from that profile."

The Atlantic article in question tracked how the embattled CEO was losing the confidence of employees within the company making Licht's departure from the network all the more predicted.

According to Business Insider, Licht apologized to staff earlier his week, saying, "I know these past few days have been very hard for this group...I fully recognize that this news cycle and my role in it overshadowed the incredible week of reporting that we just had, and distracted from the work of every single journalist in this org. And for that, I am sorry."

"As I read that article, I found myself thinking, CNN is not about me...I should not be in the news unless it's taking arrows for you. Your work is what should be written about," the CEO added. "To those whose trust I've lost, I will fight like hell to win it back, because you deserve a leader who will be in the trenches, fighting to ensure CNN remains the world's most trusted name in news."

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
