The 28-year-old woman, who was transgender and used he/him pronouns, sent a number of ominous messages to friends before she entered the Covenant Elementary School in Nashville, Tennessee and opened fire.
The massacre led to the death of three nine-year-old children and three elderly staff members who have been identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, nine, Hallie Scruggs, 9, William Kinney, 9, Cynthia Peak, 61, Katherine Koonce, 60, and Mike Hill, 61.
The shooter sent messages to a former middle school friend named Averianna Patton, as reported by News Channel 5.
“So basically that post I made on here about you, that was basically a suicide note,” the shooter now identified as Audrey Hale wrote. “I’m planning to die today. THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!!”
“You’ll probably hear about me on the news after I die,” the shooter wrote, adding, “This is my last goodbye. I love you. See you again in another life. Audrey (Aiden).”

In response, Patton replied 15 minutes before the shooting took place: “Audrey! You have so much to more in life to live. I pray God keeps and covers you.”
Following this, the female shooter sent a number of disturbing messages including that she needed to die and that he family didn’t know what she was about to do.
“One day this will make more sense,” the shooter wrote. “I’ve left behind more than enough evidence behind. But something bad is about to happen.”

“After phone calls from friends and Audrey’s name was released as the shooter at Covenant Nashville school, I learned that Audrey was the shooter and that she had reached out to me prior to the shooting,” Patton said after she heard the news to Channel 5. “My heart is with all of the families affected and I’m devastated by what has happened.”
The shooter was taken down by Officer Rex Engelbert, a four-year MNPD veteran, and Officer Michael Collazo, a nine-year MNPD veteran.
