BREAKING: DNC Announces Vice President Kamala Harris Officially Wins The Democratic Nomination

On Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris officially secured the Democratic nomination after winning enough votes from Democratic National Committee Delegates (DNC) in a virtual roll call. The official nomination comes less than two weeks after President Joe Biden exited the race and allowed his delegates to vote for another candidate. The deadline for DNC delegates to turn in their ballot electronically is Monday, but Harris had secured enough votes by Friday.

"I am so proud to confirm that Vice President Harris has earned more than a majority of votes from all convention delegates and will be the nominee of the Democratic Party following the close of voting," DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said. "The outpouring of support we have witnessed for the Vice President has been unprecedented. We knew your ballots would come back quickly."

Unlike the GOP, who held their roll call in person in Milwaukee last month, the Democrats held a virtual roll call two weeks ahead of the Chicago convention on August 19 because of fears that the Democratic candidate would be unable to appear on the ballot in Ohio.

In a statement, Harris explained that she was honored to be the party's nominee. "I am honored to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. I will officially accept the nomination next week," she wrote. "This campaign is about people coming together, fueled by love of country, to fight for the best of who we are."

After President Biden exited the race last month and endorsed his former running mate for the top of the ticket, Democrat elites and the mainstream media converged around Harris as the party's choice without entertaining any competition. One by one, potential Democrat challengers, including Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, and others, announced their support of Harris as the party attempted to unify following months of turmoil.
