On Friday, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit the East Coast at approximaetly 10:23 AM EST, with shocks felt as far south as Philadephia and as far north as Boston. According to the US Geological Survey, the main epicenter was around Lebanon, New Jersey, about 40 miles away from New York City and 150 miles from Albany, New York. The quake was the strongest earthquake since 1884 in the state of New Jersey.

Shaking was reportedly felt throughout the tri-state area on social media with podcast host Megyn Kelly, writing on X, "Did we just have an earthquake? (In CT)" Despite residents being frightened, there have been no reported damage as of this report, according to NYC Mayor Eric Adams' office. "In case of an aftershock, drop to the floor, cover your head and neck, and take additional cover under a solid piece of furniture, next to an interior wall, or in a doorway," the mayor's office advised. "We will be updating the public very soon with additional updates."

"A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit west of Manhattan and has been felt throughout New York," Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) wrote on X. "My team is asssessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day."

Due to the earthquake, the FAA has ordered a groundstop at the JFK Airport in New York and the Newark Airport in New Jersey.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
