On Monday, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) announced the creation of a new task force to handle the expected influx of hundreds of thousands of migrants as Title 42, the public health order enacted during the pandemic that allowed for the deportation of migrants, comes to an end on May 11th.
According to KVIA, the governor held a press conference at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Monday morning to give updates to Texans about the upcoming crisis that will take place along the Rio Grande.
The governor announced that he will deploy up to 10,000 National Guardsmen and 1,200 members of the Department of Public Safety to the border in the coming days.
As a part of this deployment is the creation of a new task force, the 'Texas Tactical Border Force' which will encompass specially selected members of the Texas National Guard who will be deployed to "hot spots" along the 1,254 miles of border with Mexico.
This task force will be charged with intercepting, repelling, and turning back migrants who attempt to enter the state with over 13,000 expected on a daily basis.
The Texas governor explained that the specialty group will be equipped with aircraft, watercraft, and other vehicles in order to assist them in their mission alongside those already stationed along the border via Operation Lone Star.
"[Operation Lone Star] agencies ready security forces as Texas prepares for Title 42 to end next week," Abbott wrote on Twitter last week. "While President Biden deploys troops to do paperwork, Texas is ramping up our historic efforts to protect our state and our nation."
The deployment of more Texans along the border comes after President Biden stationed 1,500 active duty military personnel along the southern border in anticipation of Title 42 coming to an end. Their presence there, however, is not to secure the border but to assist in the paperwork that will allow more migrants to enter the country.
The end of Title 42 will have disastrous effects on the state of Texas and on the country as a whole. Hundreds of thousands of migrants are expected to swarm the border in the coming weeks with millions likely to traverse along the US-Mexico border throughout the year. Biden's dereliction of duty to protect the country is an impeachable offense and should be treated as such.
