BREAKING: Homes Evacuated After Train Carrying Hazardous Material Has MASSIVE Derailment

In the early morning hours on Monday, a massive train derailment occurred just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in Whitemarsh Township.

According to Fox 29, 16 cars on a CSX train derailed at around 4:00 a.m. with multiple cars filled with hazardous materials. This prompted local authorities to issue a level 2 hazmat response

The Whitemarsh Township Police Department issued a statement that assured residents that, as of now, the only thing leaking from the train cars were silicon pellets.

"As of now, the only thing that is leaking from any of the rail cars involved, is silicone pellets which pose no risk to the community," the authorities wrote. "We are still gathering information at this time and ask you to follow us here for any important factual updates. We thank all the community partners and resources that are working with us on scene ensuring the safety of our community."

According to authorities, precautionary evacuations have occurred in the area, however, "it is not believed that further evacuations will be needed, but we will evaluate as we know more."

The company also issued a statement that read: "At approximately 4:50 a.m. ET today, a CSX train carrying 40 cars derailed around 16 cars on Norfolk Southern tracks near the intersection of Joshua and Flourtown Road in Whitemarsh, PA. While preliminary reports indicate that one car transporting hazardous material was involved in the incident, there is no indication of any leaks or spills of hazardous materials and there are no injuries to the crew of the train. The local fire department responded and declared an evacuation of just over a dozen homes out of an abundance of caution."

Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA) also issued a statement following the derailment, explaining that his team was monitoring the situation. "My team and I are monitoring the train derailment in Whitemarsh Twp and assisting local first responders," he wrote on Twitter. "Thank you to the residents taking precautions at the direction of local authorities. I urge you to continue following their instruction."

This derailment is one in a host of accidents that have occurred in recent months with the most consequential of which taking place one state over in East Palestine, Ohio that has led to tremendous environmental turmoil in the area.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
