BREAKING: Judge Hands Down Major Ruling That Could Delay Trump's Upcoming Trial

On Wednesday, Judge Tanya Chutkan issued a major ruling that could see 45th President Donald Trump's case brought against him by Special Counsel Jack Smith delayed given that the DC Court of Appeals and now the Supreme Court is weighing in to the case. The initial trial was scheduled to take place in March 2024, but the ruling to temporarily pause all procedural deadlines throws a wrench into that timeline.

Chutkan wrote in her decision that the trial date of March 4, 2024, a day before Super Tuesday, may be delayed given the appeal to the Supreme Court. Chutkan did note, however, that the gag order that she imposed on the leading Republican presidential candidate will stay in place, writing, “(I)f a criminal defendant could bypass those critical safeguards merely by asserting immunity and then appealing its denial, then during the appeal’s pendency, the defendant could irreparably harm any future proceedings and their participants."

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
