On Tuesday, Judge Juan Merchan partially lifted the gag order on presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump following his conviction by a Manhattan jury last month for 34 counts of falsifying business records. The decision is a significant victory for Trump, particularly given that CNN moderators will bring up his case in the upcoming debate with President Joe Biden on Thursday.
The revised gag order now allows Trump to speak publicly about witnesses or jurors in the case. However, it still bars Trump from commentating on prosecutors from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and members of their family members. The 45th president is also allowed to speak freely about Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).
The gag order is expected to last until Trump's sentencing hearing on July 11, just days before he is nominated at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The gag order against Trump has limited his ability to respond to the various attacks against him, particularly from his former lawyer, Michael Cohen. The decision to partially lift the court order will allow Trump to speak his mind about the hush money case and allow the American people to hear from the Republican candidate.
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
