BREAKING: Legendary Actor Carl Weathers Known For 'Rocky' Films, 'The Mandalorian' Dead At 76

On Thursday, legendary actor Carl Weathers, who's known for his roles in the first four Rocky films, The Mandalorian, and more, died at the age of 76. 

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement. “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

Weathers, who began his adult life as a professional football player, began his Hollywood career in 1975 before he got his breakout role in 1976's Rocky as Apollo Creed. Weathers would go on to reprise his role in the next three films in 1979, 1982, and 1985. Other notable movie roles include a role in Predator, Action Jackson, and Hurricane Smith

His most recent role, as Greef Karga in The Mandalorian, brought him significant fame and resulted in a 2021 Emmy nomination for his acting. Weathers also directed a pair of episodes in seasons two and three of the series.

Weathers leaves behind two sons and a storied acting career that will be remembered by millions of Americans.
