On Tuesday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) signaled that she would be moving forward with the effort to oust Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) after House Democratic leadership said that they would vote to table the motion to save the embattled speaker.
"Everyday, I fight the Democrat agenda destroying America and I fight for an America First Republican agenda," Greene posted to X. "Mike Johnson is officially the Democrat Speaker of the House. Here is their official endorsement of his Speakership."
During a House Democratic Caucus meeting on Tuesday, the minority party agreed that they would save Speaker Johnson after he worked with Democrats to pass the $95 billion foreign aid package through the lower chamber. "From the very beginning of this Congress, House Democrats have put people over politics and found bipartisan common ground with traditional Republicans in order to deliver real results," the Democratic leadership said in a statement. "At this moment, upon completion of our national security work, the time has come to turn the page on this chapter of Pro-Putin Republican obstruction. We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed."
In response to the Democrats' position, Greene posited that Johnson was working behind closed doors with the Democrats to maintain his position, which he had been in for just over six months. "What slimy back room deal did Johnson make for the Democrats' support?" the Georgia lawmaker asked. "He should resign, switch parties, and continue voting for Biden's open border invasion of America, endless wars, full term abortion on demand, trans agenda on children, warrantless spying on the American people, weaponizing government against President Trump and his supporters, and every other Democrat wishlist item he's handed over."
"If the Democrats want to elect him Speaker (and some Republicans want to support the Democrats' chosen Speaker), I'll give them the chance to do it. I'm a big believer in recorded votes because putting Congress on record allows every American to see the truth and provides transparency to our votes," she wrote. "Americans deserve to see the Uniparty on full display. I'm about to give them their coming out party!"
Greene's motion, which garnered support from Reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and Thomas Massie (R-KY), was introduced earlier this month after Speaker Johnson indicated his intention to bring the foreign aid package to the floor and after the House reauthorized the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) without a warrant requirement.
