BREAKING: Merrick Garland Appoints Special Counsel To Investigate Hunter Biden

On Friday, Attorney General Merrick Garland officially appointed a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden with U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who is currently investigating the president's son during an IRS probe, being selected for the case.

As reported by NBC News, Weiss will be responsible for the ongoing investigation into Hunter's tax issues "as well as for any other matters that arose or may arise from that investigation." 

Weiss reportedly requested to be made a special counsel on Tuesday and AG Garland approved, explaining that it was "in the public interest" to do so.
 

"On Tuesday of this week, Mr. Weiss advised me that in his judgment, his investigation had reached a stage at which he could should continue his work as a special counsel, and he asked to be so appointed," Garland said.

"Upon considering his request, as well as the extraordinary circumstances relating to this matter," Garland explained at the announcement. "I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint him as special counsel."

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, a plea deal brought by Weiss collapsed last month when Hunter's legal team rejected it after the federal government was caught by the judge attemptin to give immunity to Hunter for future charges, including those related to the Foreign Agent Registration Act or FARA.

Hunter attempted to plead guilty to two misdemeanors and a felony for the illegal possession of a firearm. 

In response to the appointment, Mike Davis of the Article 3 Project wrote, "Today special counsel appointment is Garland’s next coverup for—and protection of—his boss Biden. Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, handpicked by both Democrat senators, buried evidence—deemed credible by another U.S. attorney—since early 2020 that Biden is compromised by a $10 million foreign bribe as Vice President."

"Then Weiss orchestrated an unprecedented sweetheart deal, included a back-door pardon, for Hunter Biden—which protects President Biden," he continued. "When this scandal got exposed by Judge Noreika, we now have today’s special counsel appointment. Weiss has proven himself as a loyal political foot soldier for Biden. And Garland’s appointment of Weiss as special counsel, with his “ongoing investigation,” will simply shield Biden from accountability before the 2024 election."
