BREAKING: Nancy Pelosi Gives Her 'Enthusiastic Support' To Kamala Harris For President

Following President Joe Biden's announcement on Sunday that he would not be seeking a second term, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination as the party contemplates how to proceed ahead of the Democratic National Convention next month. Pelosi, who was instrumental in reigniting the demands for Biden to withdraw earlier this month, praised the president's decision and commemorated his legacy.

"America has been truly blessed by the wisdom and leadership of President Joe Biden," Pelosi's statement begins. "With love and gratitude, I salute President Biden for always believing in the possibilities of America and giving people the opportunity to reach their fulfillment. As one of our country's most consequential presidents, President Biden has been not only on the right side of history but on the right side of the future."

After praising President Biden for his decision to withdraw, Pelosi turned her attention to the party's future. "Today, it is with immense pride and limitless optimism for our country's future that I endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States," she stated. "My enthusiastic support for Kamala Harris for President is official, personal, and political." The former speaker explained that she has known Kamala Harris, the former attorney general of California, for decades and that she is a "brilliantly astute" politician who has been "a champion for working families."

"In the Democratic Party, our diversity is our strength, and our unity is our power," Pelosi claimed. "Now, we must unify and charge forward to resoundingly defeat Donald Trump and enthusiastically elect Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States. Onward to victory!"

Harris' anointment as the presumptive Democratic nominee comes after multiple party elites have endorsed the 59-year-old vice president as the party's pick to take on Trump in November. In addition to Pelosi, a long list of Democrats have supported Kamala, including President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton, former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA), Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), and many more.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Vice President Harris' first public remarks following Biden's withdrawal focused on the president's legacy. Joe Biden's legacy of accomplishment in three years is unmatched in modern history," she began. "In one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most presidents who have served two terms in office."

"I first came to know President Biden through his son, Beau," she said, referencing former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden (D-DE), who died from brain cancer in 2015. "We worked together as attorney generals in our states, and back then, Beau would often tell me stories about his dad. He would talk about the kind of father and the kind of man that Joe Biden is. The qualities that Beau revered in his father are the same qualities that I have seen every day in our president. His honesty, his integrity, his commitment to his faith and his family, his big heart, and his deep love of our country. And I am a first-hand witness that every day our President Joe Biden fights for the American people, and we are deeply grateful for his service to our nation."

Vice President Harris will likely face off with President Trump on November 5, given the plethora of endorsements she has received thus far and the lack of a credible challenger to take her on at the convention. Speaker Pelosi played a major role in ensuring Biden's withdrawal from the race, and her endorsement of Harris has likely locked up the vice president's position at the top of the ticket.
