On Friday, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who is currently 83 years old, announced that she would be running for reelection in 2024.
"Now more than ever our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery. Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote."
Pelosi is seeking reelection to her 20th term in the House of Representatives and it would be her first reelection campaign since handing over leadership of the House Democratic Caucus to Rep. Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY) last year.
Prior to this point, many in the Democratic Party were guessing as to whether or not she would run again in California's 11th District in San Fransisco. Her announcement seems to have finally cleared the air and likely prevented a contested primary for the seat.
