BREAKING: New Revelations Show FBI Sent Undercover Agents Into Catholic Churches, Jim Jordan Takes Action

On Monday, the Committee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government released a new subpoena to FBI Director Christopher Wray that uncovered that the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has sent at least one undercover agent into Catholic churches in order to spy on Americans.

The committee has routinely requested information and documentation from the FBI for many months, however, the Bureau has been unresponsive and only provided limited documentation. Those documents, however, have led the committee, led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), to determine that agents have been used to infiltrate Catholic churches.

“We now know the FBI, relying on information derived from at least one 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 employee, sought to use local religious organizations as ‘new avenues for tripwire and source development,'” the committee announced on Twitter.

The subpoena indicated that agents in Richmond, Virginia would engage in outreach with either leaders of local Catholic churches or Catholic congregations in order to assess “the warning signs of radicalization and to enlist their assistance to serve as suspicious activity tripwires.”

“This proposed outreach plan included contacting so-called ‘mainline Catholic parishes’ and the local ‘diocesan leadership,'” the committee explained. “The documents reveal that the FBI also expressed an interest in ‘leverag[ing] existing sources and/or initiat[ing] Type 5 Assessments to develop new sources with the placement and access’ to report on suspicious activity.”

The committee made First Amendment protections a central aspect of their argument, writing, “Although the FBI claims to have ‘numerous’ and ‘rigorous’ policies to protest First Amendment rights, the FBI’s Richmond document plainly undercuts these assertions. The document itself shows that its contents…were reviewed and approved by two senior intelligence analysts and even the local Chief Division Counsel.”

The committee called this new information “outrageous” and called upon the FBI director to quickly provide additional materials related to the investigation:

“In light of this information and the serious consequences for the free exercise of Americans’ First Amendment rights, Chairman Jordan issued a subpoena today to FBI Director Wray for all documents related to the FBI’s actions.”

Given these blockbuster revelations, it is clear that the FBI is using its resources to go after Catholic leadership and their congregations at least in the Richmond, Virginia area. While it is unclear how widespread this practice is, Rep. Jordan’s efforts to uncover these activities is an important function of oversight and should be taken seriously.
