On Thursday, the centrist group No Labels announced that it would no longer pursue a 2024 presidential run after being unable to find a candidate that would lead the ticket.
"No Labels is ending our effort to put forth a Unity ticket in the 2024 presidential election," No Labels founder Nancy Jacobson said in a statement. "Americans remain more open to an independent presidential run and hungrier for unifying national leadership than ever before. But No Labels has always said we would only offer our ballot line to a ticket if we could identify candidates with a credible path to winning the White House. No such candidates emerged, so the responsible course of action is for us to stand down."
The organization's founder reportedly ended the search for a potential candidate to win the White House after reaching out to 30 potential nominees including former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ), former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC), Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), and former Gov. Larry Hogan (R-MD). The organization explained that they had a $70 million war chest and had ballot access in 21 states, including the swing states of Nevada, Arizona, and North Carolina.
No Labels' decision to abandon their presidential campaign efforts is a positive sign for President Biden who likely would have seen more of his voters go to the centrist candidate compared to 45th President Donald Trump. While the Democrats have dodged a bullet, they still have to face down other third-party candidates who will potentially take away voters from the Democratic base including independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Green Party candidate Jill Stein, and indepedent candidate Cornel West.
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
