BREAKING: President Biden Says Delegates Can Vote For Another Candidate At Democratic National Convention

During President Biden's post-NATO Summit press conference on Thursday, the 81-year-old Democrat said that delegates heading to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month could vote their conscience and choose to select another candidate if they believe that Biden can't win re-election in November. Delegates are legally required to cast their votes for Biden following the primary elections that took place earlier this year. However, dozens of Biden delegates are reportedly preparing a letter requesting the DNC change the rules to allow for the delegates to choose the nominee at the convention.

When asked if President Biden believes that delegates should vote their conscience at the DNC if they have second thoughts about his candidacy, President Biden responded that he has overwhelming support from the voters but added that they can vote their conscience. "Obviously, they are free to do whatever they want. But I get overwhelming support. Overwhelming support. I won, but I forgot how many votes I won in the primary. So, tomorrow, if all of a sudden I show up at the convention and everybody says we want somebody else, that's the democratic process."

"That's not going to happen," Biden added in a whisper. The president also said that he would support delegates voting for another candidate. While President Biden says that he is supportive of delegates voting their conscience at the convention, the Biden campaign has reportedly been reaching out to delegates to ensure their loyalty to the president and to stop a floor fight in Chicago. The Biden staffer asked delegates via phone whether they had any concerns about the upcoming process, with one delegate explaining that he was asked, “‘Is there any reason you couldn’t or wouldn’t support the president at the convention?’”
