BREAKING: President Joe Biden Delivers National Address Explaining His Exit From The Race

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden delivered his fourth national address from the Oval Office, explaining why he decided to leave the presidential race on Sunday. The president said he reveres the office and that democracy is more important than any title.

"We are a great nation because we are a good people," Biden said. "It has become clear to me that I need to unite my party in this critical endeavor." He explained that nothing can come in the way of democracy, including his own personal ambition. "The best way forward is to pass the torch," Biden said.

The president stated that in the last six months of his presidency, he would work to lead the country forward, pass consequential legislation, work on promoting cancer research, and demand Supreme Court reform. The 81-year-old Democrat emphasized his resolve to end the war in Gaza, bring home the hostages, and bring peace to the Middle East while maintaining partnerships in NATO to ensure Ukraine gets the support it needs.

President Biden explained that Americans were able to unite to overcome a global pandemic, the worst recession in decades, and "the worst attack on democracy since the Civil War." He then emphasized his various legislative accomplishments that helped veterans, lowered prescription drug prices, and a gun reform law. Biden also claimed to have secured the southern border and boasted about his appointment of the first black woman to the Supreme Court.

"America is an idea. An idea is stronger than any armorer, bigger than any ocean, more powerful than any dictator or tyrant," the president continued. The 46th president then praised Vice President Kamala Harris and emphasized that the American people will have to decide the future of the country in November, quoting Benjamin Franklin's famous words when asked about the form of government developed by the Founders: "A Republic if you can keep it."

"I've given my heart and my soul to this nation like many others," Biden said, adding that he was incredibly grateful to the American people for giving him the opportunity to serve as president. "Let's act together to preserve our democracy. God bless you all, and God bless our troops."
