BREAKING: President Joe Biden Makes His First Appearance At White House Press Briefing

On Friday, President Joe Biden made his first-ever appearance at the White House press briefing during his administration, nearly three and a half years into his tenure. The 81-year-old Democrat took the time to address the media about the September jobs report showing a drastic employment increase that far exceeded economists' expectations.

"The past two days, we have gotten some very good news about the American economy," Biden said. "Just yesterday, shipping carriers, after some discussion with the Longshoremen union, came to an agreement to keep the ports on the East Coast and the Gulf ports open. We averted what could have become a major crisis for the country, and a tentative agreement that includes record wage increases for dock workers and shows the importance of collective bargaining represents, I think, critical progress towards a strong contract. I especially want to thank the carriers, the port operators, and the Longshoremen union for reaching this agreement at a time when the nation has faced such terrible devastation from Hurricane Helene."

"I was determined to avert a crisis at this moment because it's a critical moment. If we didn't do this now, we'd have a real problem," Biden added. "Today, we got more incredible news. It's about the strength of the American economy. The new jobs report, as you know, created 250,000 jobs in September. The expectation is for 150,000 jobs in September, which has far exceeded that number."

When asked about how intertwined Vice President Kamala Harris has worked on the recent crises facing America, Biden explained that he's in constant contact. "We're singing from the same song sheet. She helped pass all the laws [that resulted in record-high inflation]. She's a major player in everything we've done."
