On Thursday morning, it was revealed that Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), who gained fame as being the alternative candidate for Speaker of the House in January, will be endorsing 45th President Donald J. Trump for the Republican nomination.
“There is only one leader at this time in our nation’s history who can seize this moment and deliver what we need – to get us back on track, provide strength and resolve, and Make America Great Again,” Donalds said in a statement.
“That is why I’m honored to endorse President Donald J. Trump for President in 2024, and I ask my fellow Americans to join me,” he concluded.
Donalds joins a host of other Republican legislators who have come out to support Trump including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).
Gaetz, Paulina Luna, and Donalds are the only Florida Republicans who have endorsed Trump, however, given that many are wary to endorse Trump given the potential for Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to enter the race, as reported by Politico.

NEW POLL SHOWS TRUMP BLOWING BIDEN OUT OF THE WATER WITH BIGGEST LEAD TO DATE AMID INDICTMENT
Rep. Aaron Bean (R-FL) said that the choice between DeSantis and Trump is “Sophie’s choice” in reference to the film where a mother has to choose between which of her two children would die.
“Do you think I want to talk about that? You think I’m crazy?” Another anonymous Florida lawmaker said about Trump versus DeSantis.
While Trump scores a major endorsement from Donalds, other Florida lawmakers have yet to take a stand and choose between the 45th president or their governor. This is despite the fact that Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) have both already come out in favor of DeSantis.
Time will tell where the battle lines are drawn between the two Florida political leaders as GOP lawmakers take sides.
