BREAKING: Tim Scott Officially Enters The Race Against Donald Trump

On Friday, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) officially entered the race for the Republican nomination, being the fifth prominent Republican to do so.

Scott, who previously announced a exploratory committee earlier this year, joins 45th President Donald Trump, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Governor Asa Hutchinson (R-AR), and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy in the fight for the GOP nomination.

Last month, Scott released a ad announcing his exploratory committee, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer.

“I will never back down in defense of the conservative values that make America exceptional,” the senator wrote on Twitter with a video attached. “That’s why I’m announcing my exploratory committee for President of the United States.”

”This fight is personal,” he wrote, adding, “I want every American to have the same opportunities I had.”

The video launching Scott’s exploratory committee was released on the anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War with the bombing of Fort Sumter in South Carolina. Scott compared the initial divisions that sparked the Civil War to the current political climate, saying, “Today, our country is once again being tested. Once again, our divisions run deep and the threat to our future is real.”

Throughout the ad, Scott can be seen walking through the fort and explaining his story of pursuing the American Dream.

He also routinely attacked the left side of the aisle saying that they have chosen a “culture of grievance over greatness.”

Scott explained that the radical left said that he was only a “prop” or “token” for the GOP in order to weaponize race because he “disrupts their narrative.”

Scott’s ad then went on to focus on his conservative bonafides ending his message with the following: “We must win. And that will take faith. Faith in God,  faith in each other, and faith in America.”

The South Carolinian’s presidential aspirations seem slim at best. In current polling he is in the single digits with limited support. The move, however, likely handicaps challengers to 45th President Donald Trump.

Scott, as the sitting senator from South Carolina, will split the ticket in the early primary race during the Republican primaries in early 2024. Given this, his announcement will split the state with former Governor Nikki Haley who announced her run in February.

In addition, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who is widely expected to enter the race, will also be hurt by a Scott campaign given the domination of the field by Trump when multiple candidates split the ticket.
