On Monday afternoon, the Trump legal team responded to the leaking of the expected indictment of leading Republican presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, initial reports began to surface from Reuters after a reporter announced via X, formerly Twitter, that leading 2024 Republican candidate and 45th President Donald Trump had been indicted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. However, these initial reports were later revealed to be false.
Reuters cleared up the confusion, explaining that a document containing the charges had been briefly posted to the court's website despite the fact that the grand jury had yet to finish meeting.
The document in question was dated August 14th and names Trump along with various charges being brought against him. Those charges include "Violation Of The Georgia Rico (Racketeer Influenced And Corrupt Organizations) Act," "Solicitation Of Violation Of Oath By Public Officer," "Conspiracy To Commit False Statements and Writings" and "Conspiracy To Commit Forgery in the First Degree," as well as a number of other charges.
"The Reuters report that those charges were filed is inaccurate. Beyond that we cannot comment," the Fulton County DA's office said in a statement.
In response to the leaked indictment, the Trump team issued a statement condemning the leak and saying that it wasn't just an "administrative mistake."
"The Fulton County District Attorney's Office has once again shown that they have no respect for the integrity of the grand jury process," attorneys Drew Findling and Jennifer Little wrote. "This was not a simple administrative mistake."
"A proposed indictment should only be in the hands of the District Attorney's Office, yet it somehow made its way to the clerk's office and was assigned a case number and a judge before the grand jury even deliberated," the lawyers continued.
"This is emblematic of the pervasive and glaring constitutional violations which have plagued this case from its very inception," the two Trump attorneys concluded.
Thanks to this leak, Americans can likely expect an indictment of President Trump in the coming days, however, this leak has also shown just how corrupt this process is. The fact that charges have already been decided before the grand jury has even concluded shows that the case brought by DA Willis is yet another politically motivated persecution to prevent President Trump from obtaining the presidency.
