CBS News Invites Presidential Candidates To Debate After Trump Says He Won't Do Another, Harris Refused Fox News Debate

On Thursday, CBS News announced that it had agreed with Univision and The Wall Street Journal to host another presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and 45th President Donald Trump following the candidate's showdown in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening. Following the first debate, the Harris campaign demanded that Trump participate in another debate. However, Trump revealed on Truth Social on Thursday that he wasn't interested.

"CBS News, along with partners Univision and The Wall Street Journal, has invited both presidential candidates to participate in an October debate at Arizona State University," the outlet said. "We hope they accept and provide voters with another opportunity to hear directly from them." With CBS News hosting the vice presidential debate on October 1, the potential for another presidential debate if Trump changes his mind would give the outlet considerable influence in the presidential campaign.

Trump justified his refusal to participate in a second debate with Harris by claiming that he won the debate, writing, "When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, 'I WANT A REMATCH.' Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats' Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a Second Debate. She and Crooked Joe have destroyed our Country, with millions of criminals and mentally deranged people pouring into the USA, totally unchecked and unvetted, and with Inflation bankrupting our Middle Class. Everyone knows this and all of the other problems caused by Kamala and Joe - It was discussed in great detail during the First Debate with Joe and the Second Debate with Comrade Harris. She was a no-show at the Fox Debate, and refused to do NBC & CBS. KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!"

Following his Truth Social post, Harris took to X to call on the Republican candidate to participate in another debate for the sake of the voters. "Two nights ago, Donald Trump and I had our first debate. We owe it to the voters to have another debate," Harris wrote on X. The Trump campaign did propose other debates last month when Trump put forward a Fox News debate on September 4 and an NBC News debate on September 25. The vice president's campaign refused those options.

At a rally in Arizona on Thursday, Trump pointed out that fact to his supporters. "She was a no-show at the Fox debate," he said, adding that she "refused to do NBC and CBS... Kamala should focus on what she should have done during the last almost four-year period."
