Daily Wire's 'What Is A Woman' Reaches 160 MILLION Views And Scores Big Despite Censorship Efforts

Matt Walsh's 'What is a Woman?' documentary secured the top spot on Rotten Tomatoes for streaming movies on Sunday, despite the documentary being released a year ago.

Daily Wire released the film on Twitter for a 24 hour free viewing period on Friday, but Twitter labelled the documentary as "hateful conduct" and restricted its visibility to users due to the film's two supposed instances of "misgendering".

This censorship appeared to not be cleared by Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, who said such restrictions and labelling was a mistake. Twitter reversed its restrictions that allowed users to like and share the film and Musk himself tweeted the film out to his 140 million followers, according to the Daily Wire. Daily Wire's tweet eventually secured over 160 million views.

Walsh's documentary highlights the absurdity and perils of the transgender movement and its denial of basic biological differences between men and women. The question that he repeatedly asks the many people interviewed in the film - both from the supporters of the transgender movement and those against - is how they would define what is a woman.

Supporters of transgenderism in the film tend to circularly argue that one is a woman if one feels like a woman and that surgeries to transition from one gender to another are ethical and safe. Detractors of transgenderism argue that biological sex is permanent and a defining feature. They find that the surgeries are unethical and that they do more harm than good.

Despite the film taking on a controversial industry (transition surgeries) and the transgender movement, Mr. Walsh feels that media bias has led major media outlets to ignore the film despite its massive viewership, according to the Daily Wire

"The film has been seen by millions of people but still only six movie critics have dared to review it," Walsh explained. "And none of them are from major mainstream publications."

The Daily Wire shared figures from Mr. Walsh's tweet that displayed that the movie received more than 10,000 reviews by the general audience on Rotten Tomatoes and 86 percent of those reviews were positive. In contrast, there were only six reviews by professional critics on the site. Of these reviews, 83 percent were positive. Daily Wire observed that despite major outlets covering "the buzz and related news surrounding 'What is a Woman?'", none of the reviewers from the same outlets cared to leave their thoughts on the film itself.

All this begs the following questions: where are the media critics; what is a critic? Perhaps these questions should be the center of Matt Walsh's next film.
