The House Judiciary Committee held a field hearing on “Victims of Violent Crime in Manhattan” today which examined “how Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pro-crime, anti-victim policies have led to an increase in violent crime and a dangerous community for New York City residents.”
During the hearing, Representative Daniel Goldman (D-NY) called the hearing “a charade to cover up for the abuse of power…and the purpose of this hearing is to cover up for what they [Republicans] know to be an inappropriate investigation”. One of the witnesses, Madeline Brame, slapped down Mr. Goldman’s assertion by declaring “Don’t insult my intelligence…That’s why I walked away from the plantation of the Democratic Party.”
This outburst by the witness, who is black, was cheered on by onlookers. Representative Goldmann switched tactics and claimed, “What I was about to say is that as a representative of the city [New York City], I look forward to working with you.”
Greg Price tweeted the video of this exchange under the caption, “Rep. Daniel Goldman tries to say the violent crime hearing is a “charade” and witness Madeline Brame, whose Army vet son was killed in NYC, tells him ‘Don’t insult my intelligence… This is why I walked away from the plantation of the Democratic Party.'”

Madeline Brame, the Chairwoman of the Victims Rights Reform Council, testified before the House committee about her and others’ experience of violent crime in the city. As the House Judiciary GOP noted in their tweet that included her full introductory remarks, “Madeline Brame lost her son to violent crime in New York City. He was an Army veteran. Tragic.”

In her five-minute speech, she detailed how her son, an Afghan war veteran, was murdered in Harlem in 2018 “by four individuals he did not know nor had he done them any harm”. She noted that all four offenders were apprehended and charged with 1st-degree gang assault and second-degree murder. She further revealed that the case was badly resolved this year.
She detailed that “when Alvin Bragg came into office he was handed a strong trial ready murder case…where this brutal and SAVAGE homicide was captured on video…as soon as he took office the case immediately began to unravel. He…completely dismissed gang assault and murder indictments against two of the defendants clearly on video participating in the…slaughter of my son.”

She revealed how one defendant’s murder indictment was dismissed and was recharged with merely assaulting someone with a shoe. That defendant was sentenced to one year time served and is “out walking the streets of Harlem like she didn’t just participate in a brutal slaughter of another human being”. Madeline Brame also said that a similar undercharging of another defendant occurred and that one defendant will “be out [of jail] in the next 18 months.”
The witness rallied against how “millions and billions of our hard-earned tax dollars” are funding soft-on-crime organizations “that do absolutely nothing to deter this [violent] crime” and that “not another dime…be pumped into these organizations until they can produce some measurable outcomes of effectiveness…[showing how they] protect the crime.” That statement received applause from the audience.
Madeline Brame said if Bragg received any federal funding it should be similarly pulled “until he starts doing his damned job and prosecuting crime.” This too received applause. Brame continued by saying that “she was totally disrespected…we [her family] were treated like GARBAGE…I’ve sat for four and half years [for justice to be done]…We have a mother sitting right here right now whose son- two sons-one died and the other one is on a colostomy bag…So I am not the only one. There are hundreds and thousands of us.”
She emphasized that “We don’t give a damn about your politics. We don’t care. It could be the man from the moon who is running for president…as long as who is there stands for law and order and is gonna return some civility and sanity to our city.”
