MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki detailed Sunday on a podcast the potential outcome for the Senate, highlighting how the races could play in Republicans favor.
Along with the presidential race, Democrats and Republicans have been eyeing who will be taking over control after Election Day. On “Pod Save America,” co-host Dan Pfeiffer questioned MSNBC’s senior reporter on the potential outcome and how he will be viewing the race on Tuesday evening.
“On the Senate there barring some sort of recount sort of situation there’s a good chance we’re going to know who has the Senate control in the first 24 hours here, right? Given the size of the states where this is happening and where they’re going to count is that, right?” Pfeiffer asked.

“Yeah I mean look, once you take West Virginia officially off the table and the Republicans get that pickup. Yeah, you know, Ohio should be a pretty efficient vote counting state so you’ll know kind of Sherrod Brown there. Then if Brown doesn’t hang on, I mean you’ll have Tester later, but if Brown you know doesn’t hang on then Democrats have to pull a rabbit out of the hat somewhere it’ll be clear if there’s any chance for them to do that in Texas I think pretty early,” Kornacki said. “Then there’s that wild card in Nebraska. I know not technically a Democrat [and] all this stuff. But again barring something like that — if Ohio is a four, five-point win or something for the Republicans you’ll know that on Election night.”
Ohio’s Senate race has been contentious between Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown and Republican challenger Bernie Moreno, with the Democratic Party pouring millions into the campaign. The race has become one of the most expensive Senate contests this cycle, as OpenSecrets data reveals Brown’s campaign has spent $86,050,236 compared to Moreno’s $21,310,662.
Despite the substantial spending on Brown, polls remain tight. Current polling averages from RealClear Polling show Moreno with a slight 0.4-point lead, holding 46.4% support, with Brown close behind at 46%.
