On Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) made the bold declaration that his campaign would be rebooted and revitalized with the support of state Republicans when attending the Lincoln Dinner Family Night in Iowa.
DeSantis has been in a slow decline ever since the launch of his campaign in late May, with recent polling putting the Sunshine State governor a massive 43 percent behind former President Donald Trump, per the DC Enquirer. DeSantis at one point was holding around 35 percent of the support in the Republican nomination but has since lost the support he once had.
Despite these decreasing support numbers, the Florida official is still looking to have a successful presidential bid and was able to secure the support of numerous Iowan Republican politicians.
"The Lincoln Dinner showed that Republicans have a deep bench of great candidates for President in 2024 compared to the train wreck offered by Democrats. Iowans will have a difficult choice for caucusing," State Rep. Bill Gustoff (R) said about the event, per Fox News. "But Gov. DeSantis knocked it out of the park in his short speech packed with a long list of plans to put the country back on track, complete with a record of accomplishment to show why he’s the one to get the job done."
"Ron DeSantis had an awesome, energetic speech last night that offered a positive vision for the future," State Rep. Dan Gehlbach (R) said at the dinner. "He’s ready to get to work on day one with specific plans for our country. DeSantis took the time to talk to every single person in the room after his speech at the Iowa GOP dinner, far more than any other candidate I saw."
The support from Iowan Republicans will go a long way in helping DeSantis restore the diminished support that he once held. It certainly won’t be all that is required of the Florida governor to get back up to the strong second place that he had but it certainly can act as the kickoff point for him to reclaim his spot.
While many are already calling the GOP nomination done with the continued dominance of Trump, the race is certainly alive for any candidate that has the gusto to go head-to-head with the massive personality that is Donald Trump. The task certainly won’t be an easy one but if any of the potential Republican candidates could pull it off, it would most likely be DeSantis.
