'The IRS Is A Corrupt Organization': DeSantis Lays Out Sweeping Agenda To Reign In The IRS If Elected - 'We Need Something Totally Different'

Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has taken a strong stance against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), stating that he would be “welcoming” of a bill from Congress that would defund the agency in the case he was elected next year.

The comments were made alongside Dana Loesch, who has announced her support of the Sunshine State governor for president, on ‘The Dana Show.’ The radio host asked DeSantis questions about his potential presidential policies following his announcement earlier this week. The topic of potentially defunding the IRS and what alternatives to the agency looked like came up during the discussion.

“If you win the election, you become president of the United States, if Congress defunded the IRS and sent such a bill like that to your desk; Number one, would you sign it? And then, what would you replace the system with? Are you for a fair tax, a flat tax?” the conservative host asked.

"So, the answer's yes. I think the IRS is a corrupt organization and I think it's not a friend to the average citizen or taxpayer," DeSantis responded. "We need something totally different. I've supported all of the single rate proposals, I think they would be a huge improvement over the current system and I would be welcoming to take this tax system, chunk it out the window and do something that's more favorable to the average folks."

DeSantis has already openly voiced his criticism of the IRS, stating that Joe Biden’s move to add 87,000 new IRS agents would be targeting everyday Americans, per Florida Politics

“Of all the things that have come out of Washington that have been outrageous, this has got to be pretty close to the top,” DeSantis said. “I think it was basically just the middle finger to the American public, that this is what they think of you.”

“They are going to go after independent contractors, they’re going to go after small business people, they’re going to go after someone that may be driving an Uber or a handyman or all these things,” the Florida governor later added. “Why would they do that? Because you’re not going to be able to contend with the audit, so they’re going to crush a lot of people by doing that.”

DeSantis’ support of a flat tax is nothing new either, as back in 2015 he co-sponsored a bill in Congress called the ‘Fair Tax Act of 2015’ that would begin to impose a flat 23 percent tax on all goods and remove other forms of taxes like income and employment taxes. The bill would have also blocked all funding to the IRS after 2019, showing DeSantis’ long-standing disdain for the agency.

The IRS is an organization that is pretty easy to attack. They serve little purpose besides bullying American citizens into forking over their hard-earned money so that it can be pumped into the Biden administration's do-nothing initiatives. The flat tax may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it’s clear the current system doesn’t work the way it should either.
