Donald Trump Dominates Florida, Secures Majority Of Republican Endorsements In DeSantis’ Home State

Once again 45th President Donald Trump proves that he is the frontrunner in the 2024 race for the Republican nomination as it is reported that he will pick up two more endorsements from Florida Republican congressman in the coming days.

According to a report by Time Magazine, Reps. Gus Bilirakis and Carlos Gimenez are both planning on voicing their endorsement for President Trump in what is seen as a major blow to Gov. DeSantis (R-FL) who will likely announce his candidacy this summer.

In addition to these endorsements from the Sunshine State, Trump has picked up eight other Florida Republicans out of the 20 in the Republican congressional delegation.

Those Florida congressmen include Reps. Matt Gaetz, Anna Paulina Luna, Byron Donalds, Cory Mills, John Rutherford, Vern Buchanan, Brian Mast, and Greg Steube all support the leading Republican candidate.

Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) is also expected to endorse Trump for the nomination.

According to NBC News, Gov. DeSantis’ team has reportedly asked for Florida Republicans to hold off on endorsing Trump, however, that request has seemed to gone on deaf ears.

“There is clearly some angst from the DeSantis camp that so many members of the state’s congressional delegation are throwing their support behind Trump,” said a GOP consultant for one of the members contacted by DeSantis’ team. “Gaetz going with Trump is one thing, but Byron’s endorsement of the former president undoubtedly rattled some cages.”

While Trump now enjoys 10 out of the 20 Florida Republicans’ endorsements, DeSantis has only received the endorsement of Rep. Laurel Lee, who has previously served in DeSantis’ administration. The only other endorsements that DeSantis has are from Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY).

Meanwhile, Senate Republicans have also taken Trump’s side with the 45th president having the support of nine Republican senators including Sens. Ted Budd (R-NC), Lindsay Graham (R-SC), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), and J.D. Vance (R-OH).

As Trump continues to pick up support from Gov. DeSantis’ home state, it is certainly a blow to a potential DeSantis campaign that won’t even get off the ground until next month at the end of the Florida legislative session.
