It seems even former President Donald Trump has noticed Fox News’ decline since the departure of their most popular host Tucker Carlson, saying in an interview Monday that the ratings for the news station were declining.
The New York City businessman appeared on Fox News’ “Special Report” alongside host Bret Briar and spoke over many different topics -- primarily his recent indictment over his alleged possession of classified documents within his private residence.
Baier eventually turned his questioning away from the indictment charges and onto the 2024 election, asking Trump, “What do you say to the voter who really liked many of your policies, but they can’t handle the scandals or the controversies or the name-calling and the vitriol? What do you say to that voter who’s worried that all leads to a general election loss?”
“Based on the polls, I’m leading Biden by a lot,” the former president responded. “Based on the polls, I’m leading all of the Republicans by a lot, by 40 points and more. Right now, I have the best polls I’ve ever had. People see this stuff for what it is. It’s a political witch hunt.”
Trump’s claims are true as he has been dominating the Republican primaries, as the most recent polls give the real estate mogul a hefty 44 percent lead over second place Ron DeSantis (R-FL), as previously reported by the DC Enquirer.
The former president is looking good in the general election as well, with the most recent poll from Rasmussen Reports giving Trump a six percent lead against Biden in a general election faceoff. The polls have been relatively close but the New York businessman has consistently pulled ahead in polls against the mentally declining incumbent president.
It seemed that the discussion of polls excited Baier to talk about his place of employment, saying, “More independent voters watch Fox News than any other TV source.”
Trump wasted no breath, firing back, “A lot less than used to watch it.”
The Fox News host was quick to attempt to defend the news station, saying that “They do watch."
Ever since the department of Tucker Carlson, Fox News has been facing a notable dropoff in viewers. “Tucker Carlson Tonight” was the most-watched prime-time news show in its time slot, and since the separation, Fox News has been entirely unable to fill that hole.
In contrast, Carlson has seen incredible success having his own show on Twitter, consistently pulling tens of millions of views in less than 24 hours, something Fox News couldn’t even dream of.
