On Tuesday, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) nominated 45th President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his work bringing the biggest step towards peace in the Middle East in decades with the Abraham Accords in 2020. The international agreements normalized relations between Israel and various other Muslim nations, including Morocco, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. Trump also laid the groundwork for the normalization of relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Israel.
"Donald Trump was instrumental in facilitating the first new peace agreements in the Middle East in almost 30 years," the New York congresswoman wrote in a statement. "For decades, bureaucrats, foreign policy 'professionals,' and international organizations insisted that additional Middle East peace agreements were impossible without a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. President Trump proved that to be false."
"The valiant efforts by President Trump in creating the Abraham Accords were unprecedented and continue to go unrecognized by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, underscoring the need for his nomination today," she continued. "Now more than ever, when Joe Biden's weak leadership on the international stage is threatening our country's safety and security, we must recognize Trump for his strong leadership and his efforts to achieve world peace. I am honored to nominate former President Donald Trump today and am eager for him to receive the recognition he deserves."
While President Trump was successful in ensuring that there was peace in the region during his administration, his work has been significantly curtailed thanks to the Biden administration's policies that have resulted in an emboldened Iran and the growing strength of its various proxies in Yemen, Lebanon, Gaza, and other areas. This drastic contrast in foreign policy expertise has led Americans to trust Trump more to represent the United States abroad than Biden.
According to a November Bloomberg News and Morning Consult poll, Trump was more trusted to handle Ukraine, Israel, and China than Biden. Among respondents, 45 percent of voters thought Trump would handle the conflict in Ukraine better, while only 34 percent trusted Biden on the matter. On the US relationship with China, the poll found that 46 percent said they would support Trump to handle the East Asian adversary while only 34 percent trusted Biden. On the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, 43 percent of Americans trusted Trump on the matter versus 33 percent trusting Biden to handle the conflict.
As more and more Americans begin to realize the strength of Trump's foreign policy agenda modeled on peace through strength, his accomplishments during his administration are beginning to be viewed in a different light, particularly when compared to Biden's disastrous agenda. Trump, who has been nominated for the award multiple times, surely deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
