A new poll released from Emerson College on Thursday morning showed 45th President Donald Trump with the biggest lead yet over his Republican primary opponents for the 2024 nomination.
Emerson College polled Republican primary voters from April 24th to the 25th.
Emerson found that Trump had a momentous lead with 62 percent support amongst Republican voters. In contrast, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who is expected to announce his candidacy in mid-May, only had 16 percent support among voters.
The poll also found that former Vice President Mike Pence had seven percent support, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy both had three percent, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson had two percent, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Gov. Mike Sununu (R-NH) had 0.4 percent.
In addition to polling about the primaries, Emerson found that Biden is practically tied with Trump Trump with 43 percent support for Biden to Trump’s 41 percent support, well within the margin of error.

On the other hand, Gov. Ron DeSantis performed worse than Trump in a general election matchup with Biden securing 43 percent support and DeSantis only having 37 percent support.
“Independent voters are nearly split on the presidential ticket between Trump and Biden, 34% would vote for Biden and 33% Trump,” Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of Emerson College Polling noted. “A third of independents support someone else or are undecided.”
The poll also found Biden’s approval rating to be down to 41 percent and the question of the Democrat primary had a surprising surge for RFK Jr.
When respondents answered who they would vote for in the Democrat primary, Biden only received 70 percent support while Kennedy Jr. was able to secure over a fifth of the vote with 21 percent. Marianne Williamson received eight percent.
Given the monumental lead over his primary opponents, Donald Trump is the favorite for the nomination. While many are hoping that Gov. DeSantis’ announcement will boost his numbers in May, some see the primary over before it even started.
