Eight Dead After Illegal Migrant Smuggler Crashes Following Hot Pursuit With Police

On Wednesday, eight people, including two Americans, were tragically killed in a head-on collision in Batesville, Texas, after a smuggler of illegal immigrants crashed into an SUV driven by two Americans.

According to CBS Austin, the incident occurred around 6:30 AM on Highway 57 between La Pryor and Batesville.

The Texas Department of Public Safety immediately responded to the crash site and shut down the highway to assess the damage and recover the bodies of the deceased.

At the time of the crash, Zavala County Sheriff's deputies were in pursuit of the smuggler when they passed an 18-wheeler and crashed directly into an SUV driven by two Georgia residents. Upon impact, the vehicle burst into flames, leading to the death of the four migrants from Honduras and the smuggler.

The tragedy has led to a plethora of responses, including from former Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX), who wrote, "Smugglers have no regard for human life, and Americans' lives remain at risk every day under the Biden Administration's policies."

"Elections have consequences. The blood is on the hands of those promoting open borders," wrote user Mike Sperrazza. "This makes me sick."

"But just today, Mayorkas says there's no crisis at the border," wrote another user with an attached video of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The crash is one of the ongoing tragedies currently underway at the US-Mexico border, as hundreds of thousands of migrants cross the southern border every month, including suspected terrorists and members of various criminal organizations.

Texas police and members of the Texas National Guard have taken considerable action to stop the smuggling of migrants across the border, including the deployment of razor wire, the construction of buoys in the Rio Grande, and the pursuit of smugglers across the state.

Video emerged earlier this week of Texas DPS officers pursuing a smuggler who proceeded to stop on the side of the road and allow migrants to flee into the brush near Del Rio, Texas.

As Biden's open border policies continue to endanger both American citizens and migrants along the southern border, more deadly incidents, such as the car crash in Batesville, will continue to take place.
