On Monday, X owner Elon Musk and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a two-hour conversation on X Spaces that saw a record-breaking number of users tuning in to the livestream. The discussion spanned a wide array of topics, from nuclear energy to the presidential race to inflation to the US-Mexico border. Musk made it clear multiple times throughout the discussion that electing Trump in November would lead America down a path of prosperity.
"I think we're at a fork in the road of the destiny of civilization, and I think we need to take the right path, and I think you're the right path," Musk said. "I think you [Trump] are the path to prosperity, and I think that Kamala is the opposite."
Musk, who has gotten increasingly political in recent months, explained to the 45th president that he previously supported Barack Obama during his presidential runs and that his entrance into the political sphere wasn't something he would have done if the country wasn't at a "critical juncture."
"I supported Obama, I stood in line for six hours to shake Obama's hand when he was running for president. So it's not like I'm some sort of dyed-in-the-wool, long-term Republican. I'd actually call myself historically a moderate Democrat," Musk explained. "But now, I feel like we're really at a critical juncture for the country."
Musk went on to point out that the Kamala Harris campaign is far more radical than the Biden administration, which many Americans thought would be more moderate. "I think a lot of people thought the Biden administration would be a moderate administration, but it's not. And obviously, we're just going to see an even further left administration with Kamala," Musk explained, adding that Kamala's father was a "Marxist economist."
"We want to have a future that is prosperous, and I think we're just at this critical juncture," he said. "I'm just trying to tell people my honest opinion. I haven't really been active in politics before, and I'm just trying to point out that my track record historically has been moderate — if not moderate, slightly left."
Musk's comments about President Trump reached a wide audience, and the platform announced that nearly a billion users saw the content within the first hours of its publication. "Between 7:47 PM and 10:47 PM ET, President Donald Trump's Space post received 73 million views. During the same period, there were 4 million posts about Elon Musk and President Trump's conversation on 𝕏, generating a total of 998 million views," the social media network explained.
