Swalwell The Spender: See How the California Democrat Outspends Even Nancy Pelosi Using Campaign Cash On Luxury And Traveling

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is no stranger to scandal. His ouster in disgrace from the House Intelligence Committee due to his close relationship with a Chinese spy was one such affair. Now, however, startling information has emerged over his spending of campaign funds on luxury and travel accommodations. The Californian Democrat has even outspent former Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi on such accommodations.

As Fox News reports, “Swalwell’s campaign spent nearly $583,000 on travel expenses during the 2022 elections, the filings show. Pelosi, by contrast, finished the cycle by putting $434,000 into reported travel expenses, according to a review of her records. Swalwell has consistently used donor funds on limousines, flights, yachts, and posh hotels, including internationally.”

Fox News continues by adding that this “spending came as Americans in both his district and around the country faced rising inflation that drove food, fuel, and energy costs through the roof.”

Mr. Swalwell has even liberally spent campaign money abroad on travel and luxury hotels. Fox News noted, “Swalwell’s committee also burned through thousands of dollars in Paris, France, including $1,800 early last May at the five-star Hotel La Maison Champs-Elysées, where nightly rooms run from around $1,000 to $1,200 per night…Weeks later, the campaign reported spending hundreds of dollars at Le Cafe Marly, which is situated in the ‘heart of the Tuileries’ and just under the ‘arcades of the Louvre,’ according to its website.”

Fox News adds further details to the luxurious accommodations that were spent in France by saying that “Inside Le Cafe Marly, patrons admire ‘classified woodwork’ and views ‘of the museum’s sculpture room’ in one of the ‘most beautiful’ and ‘best kept’ secrets in Paris. Its menu features items from Homemade Ginger Carrot Juice for $12 to Oscietre Imperial Caviar with two shots of Beluga for $120. And around that same time, the campaign expended $3,538.94 at France’s ‘iconic’ Ritz Paris, a posh hotel with several upscale bars and reservation rooms.”

The Swalwell campaign also spent a lot of money on lavish hotels in the United States itself, for yacht rides, and “$131,000 in childcare expenses.” Fox News records that the Californian’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

According to Open Secrets, Mr. Swalwell’s campaign committee raised $3,735,659 in 2022 and spent $3,609,987. When examining the money raised from both his campaign committee and leadership PAC, however, the amount raised and spent reached even higher numbers. Mr. Swalwell raised $4,121,008 and spent $4,089,010. It should be noted that the Californian ran in a safe D +22 district according to the Cook Political Report.
