Family Sues School After Their Son Was Punished For Wearing 'There Are Only Two Genders' Shirt

The Morrisons are filing legal action against their son's school, Nichols Middle School after they allegedly violated his rights by demanding he remove his shirt which read, “There are only two genders.”

Liam Morrison, the seventh grader who was suspended from the school for his shirt, spoke out at a school board meeting in a now-viral clip. Morrison claimed to have been pulled out of his gym class on March 21st and forced to talk with school officials, per the New York Post. The officials informed Morrison that his shirt was making other classmates feel “unsafe,” despite the shirt not containing any aggressive language.

“They told me that I wasn’t in trouble, but it sure felt like I was,” Morrison stated. “I was told that I would need to remove my shirt before I could return to class. When I nicely told them that I didn’t want to do that, they called my father.”

Following his first incident with school officials, Liam Morrison wore another shirt similar to his other, this time reading, “There are censored genders.” The school immediately told him to remove the shirt again.

"So what happened is very, very shortly after I arrived, I was actually a bit early, is just as the school was opening up-- it didn't really take long for someone to walk into my homeroom and [someone] to tell me, ‘Hey, I need you to follow me,’" Morrison told Fox News. "And knowing the shirt I was wearing and even though how different it was, I figured out that they would probably want me to come to the principal's office. And after I had followed them, I went to the room that they told me to, and I already took my shirt off because I knew that that's what they were going to ask me to do."

The family is now looking to take legal action against the school, as the school’s attorneys have informed the Morrison family that they will continue to prevent Liam from wearing any shirts like the ones he previously wore.

Massachusetts Family Institute lawyer Sam Whiting, who will be representing the Morrisons, said he is expecting the lawsuit to be filed within the next month.

Whiting is confident in the Morrison's ability to win the case, saying, “We believe that we’re going to get a win on this. I mean, I really can’t think of a better fact pattern to vindicate a student’s First Amendment rights. Liam did everything correct in this situation. He hasn't disrupted anything. He hasn't harassed anyone. And yet they're still censoring him just because they don't like what his shirt had to say. And that's made even more obvious by the fact that they made him take off a censored version of the shirt. It didn't even say anything about gender.”

Liam Morrison also stressed that his shirt was not worn with the intent to hurt or go against anyone, specifically not targeting people that identify as “lesbian or gay or transgender or anything like that.”

"I'm just voicing my opinion about a statement that I believe to be true. And I feel like some people may think that I'm imposing hate speech, even though it's not directed towards anyone," he added.

It’s nice to see someone so young be able to understand not only his fundamental rights provided to him by the First Amendment but also the lunacy that is modern-day gender ideology. We only wish the best for Liam and his family in their court case.
