In Hillsborough County, Florida, a Tampa Bay man was placed under arrest Sunday. According to law enforcement, the man allegedly poured gasoline onto another man before setting him on fire. Earl Hargrove, Jr., 34, was taken into police custody after an incident at a Mobil gas station that left another man with life-threatening injuries.
A press release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department detailed the horrific incident, "On Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 4:32 p.m., two men at the Mobile gas station located at 14516 N 22nd Street in Tampa engaged in a verbal confrontation, after which the suspect, Earl Hargrove, Jr., 34, bought a small amount of gasoline from the gas station. Hargrove then proceeded to pour the gasoline on the victim and lit... him on fire."
Sheriff Chad Chronister told reporters, “A verbal argument should never escalate to this level of violence. This suspect’s behavior is not only deplorable but will never be tolerated in our community. The suspect, in this case, is currently behind bars while we wait in anticipation for justice to be served."
A man is under arrest for throwing gasoline on another man and lighting him on fire. The victim was taken to TGH where he is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Hargrove is facing felony charges of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and attempted murder in the first degree, according to the authorities. Fox News reported that he is presently being held without bail. The as-yet-unnamed victim was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Commenters on Twitter suggested that Hargrove should be charged with premeditated murder if his victim succumbs to his injuries. They wrote, "Earl Hargrove Jr. had an opportunity to walk away from this argument. If this man dies he should be charged with Premeditated Murder he had time to think about it!"

Hillsborough County encompasses the greater Tampa Bay area west of St. Petersburg, an area with a population of about 1.45 million people, according to the 2020 census. According to County Crime statistics, there have been 17 murders year to date in 2023 and 298 assaults both a significant increase since 2020.
