Social issues are heating up across the country, and lawmakers and governors are being forced to take a side on some of the most divisive issues. Meanwhile, DeSantis is doubling down on the culture war. On Monday, he signed into law a new act that will promote fatherhood in the state of Florida.
House Bill 7065 covers a multitude of issues regarding child welfare; however, it also works to promote and strengthen the role of the father in a child’s life. The bill seeks to provide fathers with resources and support to encourage them to play a role in their children’s lives.
Pro-family, especially pro-father legislation, is becoming exceedingly rare. Florida, on the other hand, is providing additional resources to encourage healthy homes. The legislation will provide, at minimum, websites, grants, and community-based programs to encourage fatherhood.
The bill provides over 70 million dollars worth of funds that will be allocated to helping families through various programs in the state. Former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tony Dungy, voiced his support for the bill as well, “This is going to be tremendous and such a good help to fathers in Florida.” Dungy is a father himself and the national spokesperson for All Pro Dad, an organization dedicated to helping fathers.
After signing the bill, Governor DeSantis said “There are more than 18 million children in our country who live without a father in their home. This has a severe impact on children and often leads to dropping out of school, crime, and substance abuse. Incredibly, there are those who diminish the importance of fatherhood and the nuclear family – we will not let that happen in our state. I am proud to say we are doing everything we can to support involved fatherhood in Florida.”
In a very timely tweet, the First Lady of Florida said “@GovRonDeSantis is a great dad, always leading by principled example — a true pillar of strength for our family and for the State of Florida. Madison, Mason, and Mamie are lucky to call you dad. We love you”

While many Republicans focus on tax cuts, it’s uplifting to see a Governor focused on what really matters and doing everything possible to ensure the next generation grows up in a healthy society.
In Florida, we are working hard to promote and support fatherhood.
