Following Release of January 6th Footage to Tucker Carlson, Mainstream Media Begs For Access

On Friday, outlets from the mainstream media banded together by sending a letter to congressional leaders begging for them to release the full 41,000 hours of January 6th footage after Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) released the video to Tucker Carlson of Fox News last week.

The letter was signed by CBS News, CNN, Politico, ProPublica ABC, Axios, Advance, Scripps, the Los Angeles Times, and Gannett, per CBS.

“Without full public access to the complete historical record, there is concern that an ideologically-based narrative of an already polarizing event will take hold in the public consciousness, with destabilizing risks to the legitimacy of Congress, the Capitol Police, and the various federal investigations and prosecutions of January 6 crimes,” the letter claimed.

This argument comes from a news media that routinely politicized the events of January 6th to their own, and to their Democratic allies’, interests for over two years. The January 6th Committee was a biased and selective process that allowed the news media to bash President Trump and use the events of the Capitol Riot as a cudgel against conservative Americans. 

Their eagerness to only now seek the truth once Tucker Carlson was granted access showcases that they were unwilling to actually do the digging in the first place to paint a proper picture of what transpired that day. Instead, they went with the narrative crafted by the January 6th Committee production and repeated the various mischaracterizations espoused by the Democrats, along with Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, on the committee.

“Now that the CCTV videos have been released to one member of the news media – one whose program is categorized by its own network as opinion programming – they must be released to the rest of the news media as well,” the letter argued.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Tucker Carlson explained that “[T]here was never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret.”

“If there was ever a question that’s in the public’s interest to know, it’s what actually happened on January 6,” the Fox host explained. “By definition, this video will reveal it. It’s impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that.”

On Tucker’s show last week, the host explained that his producers have been examining the thousands of hours of footage and that they’ve been given “unfettered access.” The host also explained that he will be airing the footage along with his analysis in the coming weeks. Americans across the country are going to tune in to get the full story of what happened on that day and new revelations are likely to abound. 

It is clear that the mainstream media want to get ahold of the footage in order to form their own narratives in response to Carlson. They’ve had their opportunity to seek the truth over the past two years, it’s Tucker’s turn now.
