Following Trump’s Backing, Leftist Lawmakers Are Forced to Heel to GOP and Repeal D.C. Soft-on-Crime Laws

The left has finally conceded ground on the issue of the continuously skyrocketing crime rates in the nation’s capital and now steps can be taken to actually fight against it. For many years, Democrats in Washington have blocked any form of enforcing the law in the city in which they represent their constituents, mostly because their cushy salaries allow them to live in upscale/safer areas where they can watch the lawlessness on their balconies from afar.

What’s even perhaps more stunning is that just when the vote was about to be held to repeal the soft-on-crime laws in D.C., Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) was attacked in the city mere hours before. In a previous DC Enquirer article, it was reported that Rep. Craig “was attacked in the elevator of her apartment complex in Washington D.C..” Craig was later reported to be fine and able to attend the House votes that were scheduled for later that day, where she voted in favor of the resolution. Undoubtedly, this first-hand account of violence definitely swayed the congresswoman’s position on the matter; however, most of her Democratic counterparts (173) voted against it.

Upon the House’s vote to send the legislation to a vote in the Senate, a surprising 180 was made on the issue by President Biden, who signaled that he would change course and sign the resolution to overturn relaxed laws in the city. Biden’s Twitter account read the following:

“I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule – but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections – such as lowering penalties for carjackings. If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did – I’ll sign it.”

BREAKING: DEMOCRAT REP. ANGIE CRAIG ATTACKED IN WASHINGTON DC JUST HOURS BEFORE VOTE TO REPEAL SOFT-ON-CRIME POLICIES, MAJORITY OF DEMOCRATS VOTED AGAINST REPEAL

Of course, this move came to a surprise to many members in the president’s own party after he’d first opposed the resolution, with The Hill citing that a lawmaker on the left went as far as saying that “a lot of us who are allies voted no in order to support what the White House wanted. And now we are being hung out to dry,” the lawmaker continued. “F****** AMATEUR HOUR. HEADS SHOULD ROLL OVER AT THE WHITE HOUSE OVER THIS.”

The passing of this resolution comes after President Trump called on Congress to take action, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer.

“In the middle of the city’s bloodies crime wave in decades, the left-wing lunatics on the Washington D.C. city council has passed a radical bill to throw open the jailhouse doors, set loose violent felons, and let criminals run wild,” Trump began. “I just wonder are they going to allow the patriots of January 6th to go or are they going to be the only ones in jail in Washington D.C.”

“The bill is a horrific catalog of the sickest and most twisted ideas of the radical Democrat’s defund the police crusade,” he explained, adding, “and remember for all the police that are listening, they want to defund the police.”

“That’s where they started and that’s where they want to finish. It reduces penalties for carjackers, it lowers penalties for robberies, it slashes penalties for convicted felons committed gun crimes, it eliminated almost all mandatory minimum sentences,” the 2024 presidential candidate continued. “Murders in DC are up 63 percent year-to-date yet the bill even makes murders and rapists allegeable for early release.”

“It seeks to overwhelm the court system by dramatically expanding jury trials for simple misdemeanors so criminals won’t be charged for those offenses. It is a betrayal of our police and a betrayal of our people,” the 45th president said. “By virtue of the federal government’s unique responsibility for the District of Colombia, Congress can vote to stop these deranged policies from going into law. Congress should immediately send a resolution to Joe Biden’s desk rejecting this weak-on-crime agenda.”
