Hunter Biden wasn’t shy to call his father on speakerphone during business meetings with overseas partners during the Obama administration according to Devon Archer, the former best friend of the younger Biden who is set to testify before Congress this week.
Archer is set to testify before the House Oversight Committee over meetings that he witnessed that were attended either by phone or in person by then-Vice President Joe Biden with foreign business partners, per the New York Post. Hunter Biden would use these meetings to introduce his father to foreign business partners or potential investors.
The former best friend is expected to discuss numerous different encounters that he was witness to. One such encounter is a dinner that took place in Dubai on December 4th, 2015, which was held after a board meeting for the Ukraine energy company Burisma, the same company with which Hunter was employed.
Archer is expected to testify that after the dinner with the Burisma board at a hotel, Hunter and himself drove north to a resort where they had a drink with another one of Hunter’s friends. While at the bar, a senior Burisma executive named Vadym Pozharskyi phoned the duo asking where they were because the owner of Burisma, Mykola Zlochevsky, needed to urgently talk with Hunter.
The two Ukrainian gentlemen came to the bar that Hunter and Devon were drinking at where Pozharskyi asked Hunter “Can you ring your dad?”
Hunter promptly called his father, who answered and then put him on speaker. He then introduced the two Burisma executives to Joe Biden as “Nikolai and Vadym,” adding that the Burisma executives “need our support.”
The then-vice president greeted the two gentlemen but talked around the issue during the short call, something that Joe Biden apparently frequently did during these calls. The events are all expected to be corroborated by Archer's testimony when he appears before Congress.
It is also expected that investigators will ask for the reasoning behind the Bursima executives needing to so urgently speak with Joe Biden. The context around the time is also important as three days following the phone call Joe Biden flew out to Kyiv to address the Ukrainian parliament about the “poison of cronyism, corruption, and kleptocracy.”
Archer is also expected to tell Congress that Hunter phoning his father was not an uncommon occurrence, something that could have happened as many times as two dozen. Archer also isn’t the only former business partner to recall the younger Biden phoning his father with Tony Bobulinski recalling a time at a meeting in LA when Joe Biden was phoned in.
The congressional testimony is likely to cover the two dinners that Hunter had organized for his father to meet with Ukrainian business partners that happened in April 2015 and early 2016. The first dinner also included Pozharskyi, who emailed Hunter after the dinner thanking him for introducing him to Joe Biden.
“Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together,” Pozharskyi wrote in his email. “It’s really [sic] an honor and pleasure.”
The Archer testimony should reveal a lot, with the former friend of Hunter Biden stating it was his “civic duty” to testify before Congress. He also said that he has “nothing to hide, no revenge to enact nor anyone to protect other than his family and he feels he has been handcuffed by the absurdly bogus [fraud] case into remaining silent. In a forum where he has immunity, he can at least start to speak truth.”
