Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has angered yet another left-wing group of sexual fiends, but this time it's not the one that most people expect. The Sunshine State governor has taken his aim toward the drag queens attempting to openly flaunt their sexual fetish to children, members of the LGBTQ community that attempt to indoctrinate kids into their cult-like beliefs, and inadvertently the furry community.
The now-presidential candidate signed legislation back in March named SB 1438, or the Protection of Children Act, which punishes offenders who “knowingly [admit] a child to an adult live performance.” Doing so will grant the offender a first-degree misdemeanor that can get them a year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine. The bill was intended to fight back against the growing trend of drag queen performances in front of children, but it would appear that DeSantis killed two birds with one stone.
The organizers behind the Florida furry convention Megaplex took to Twitter to inform potential attendees that they would need to be 18 years or older to attend the fetish convention.
“Many have raised concerns about recent changes in Florida legislation. After reviewing Florida SB 1438 it has been decided that for legal reasons and protection of our attendees, our venue, and the overall convention, Megaplex 2023 attendees must be 18 years of age at the time of registration pickup,” the announcement noted.
— Megaplex (@MegaplexCon) May 24, 2023Megaplex is a furry convention that has been held in Florida since 2002, per Wikifur. The convention had over 4,600 furries attended the convention last year with an unknown, but non-zero, percentage of minors. A notable amount of the furry population also identifies as LGBTQ, roughly 80 percent according to a Vox survey of the group in 2015.
Furries have attempted to argue that their acts are non-sexual but it would seem that the decision from the organizers behind Megaplex shows that may not be quite the case.
Ian Miles Cheong, a journalist for Rebel News, perfectly summed up the message being sent out in a tweet. “Furries, who have sex with animals, are now upset that Ron DeSantis won’t let minors go to their sex conventions,” Cheong wrote in his Twitter post. “And they’re apparently part of the LGBTQ alphabet soup.”

The Rolling Stone also felt the need to write an article attacking DeSantis for protecting children from the immorality of the furry community, claiming, “Ron DeSantis has successfully sucked the pleasure out of many of life’s little joys, from drag brunches to Disney adult TikTok.” It would seem to Rolling Stone author EJ Dickson that little joys include exposing children to mentally ill men cross-dressing as women while doing provocative dances and equally as mentally ill people dressing in full-body animal suits discussing which animal they find most attractive.
The example with Megaplex shows the positive aspects of SB 1438 being able to even unintentionally stop deviants from spreading their sexual desires to young children. People will always try to find ways to normalize the most abnormal behavior and justify the most unjustifiable actions. The people who argue that banning deviants who are sexually attracted to animals from being around children in costume shows they have no moral compass or critical thinking. Furries and drag queens will and should never be normal. If something needs to be normalized it’s because it’s abnormal to begin with.
