Ron DeSantis yesterday in an interview with conservative influencer Will Witt attacked the Republican base, implying Trump supporters are “listless vessels” that blindly follow the President, regardless of principle.
The statement displayed a stunning ignorance – and outright disdain – for Trump voters’ motivations.
The DeSantis campaign is in freefall. According to the latest Emerson poll, Trump is beating him by 46 points nationally. And things aren’t looking much better in the early primary states. DeSantis is losing to Trump by 26 points in Iowa, 39 points in New Hampshire, and 34 points in South Carolina. Some recent polls even have him falling into third place behind Vivek Ramaswamy, who was virtually unknown a few months ago.
The DeSantis campaign was hyped for months, even before he formally announced his candidacy. Supporters who believed he could beat President Trump have been bitterly disappointed. Last month, DeSantis was forced to hit a “reset” on his campaign, laying off a third of his staff and replacing his campaign manager. Things have only gotten worse for him since then.
The Florida governor appears to be getting increasingly desperate. Yesterday, Witt asked about attacks suggesting DeSantis is a puppet of the Bushes and Cheneys. DeSantis responded by lashing out against the Trump supporting Republican base.
“We have a strand in our party that views supporting Trump as whether you are a RINO or not. And so you could be the most conservative person since sliced bread. Unless you’re kissing his rear end, they will somehow call you a RINO. And so, it’s been totally detached from principle and what you actually believe and results.”
He went on to lament that congressmen like Thomas Massie and Chip Roy “will be attacked by some of these people.”
He continued: “And so, it’s just been totally detached from any type of substance. And ultimately, a movement can’t be about the personality of one individual… If you’re not rooted in principle, if all we are is listless vessels that’s just supposed to follow whatever happens to come down the pike on truth social every morning, that’s not going to be a durable movement.”
The attack is reminiscent of the attacks Leftists and establishment RINOs have leveled at President Trump and his supporters for years. They could never – and still can’t – make sense of the America First movement, its supporters, or their motivations. To them, MAGA is nothing more than a cult of personality: ignorant voters blindly rallying behind a demagogue. It’s sad to see DeSantis strike a similar tune.
It goes without saying that Trump isn’t a cult leader, and his supporters aren’t “listless vessels.” Whether the establishment wants to admit it or not, President Trump is a thought leader who singlehandedly remolded the Republican Party’s political ideology. Gone is the party war mongering neoconservatives and open border libertarians. The Republican Party of today is the party of America First, law and order, and border security. We have President Trump to thank for that.
For years, the political elite on both sides of the aisle looked down on working class voters with contempt. President Trump was the only politician who gave the disaffected conservative working class a voice. He earned their trust in a way no other political leader has in recent memory. That’s why they listen to him.
And unfortunately for DeSantis, those “listless vessels” are listening to him too, and they’ll remember what DeSantis said when the primaries start.

desantis, you have no idea what your babbleing about. You cant even finish the job that you asked your voters to support you for. Your begging Mickey Mouse to drop their lawsuit that you started. You blew your shot for 2028 for president, and you blew your shot to be reelected as govenor for walking out of your job you had..

It's too bad the Governor is so desperate. I may be one of those "listless vessels" but I'm more for America First than I'm with the world money mongers including all the ones that have sold out this country in order to get rich off slave labor in the 3rd world counties.
