Famous actor Michael Imperioli took to his Instagram on Saturday to thank the Supreme Court for their recent decision that allowed a business owner to deny making a product designed against her religion, claiming that the decision would allow him “to discriminate and exclude those who [he doesn’t] agree with.”
The Supreme Court ruled on Friday in 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis that the state of Colorado could not force the graphic design website company to make a site for a gay marriage, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer. Many people have attempted to tie this decision as one that is anti-LGBTQ despite the decision purely being a pro-First Amendment decision.
One such complainer was Michael Imperioli, who wrote on his Instagram about the decision while sharing an image of the woman in the case.
“[I[’ve decided to forbid bigots and homophobes from watching The Sopranos, The White Lotus, Goodfellas or any movie or tv show I’ve been in," he wrote. "Thank you Supreme Court for allowing me to discriminate and exclude those who I don’t agree with and am opposed to. USA ! USA!”
Imperioli did not stop there, writing many follow-up comments claiming “it’s called dehumanization” and “America is becoming dumber by the minute.”
The actor clearly did not understand what the decision was saying, as the ruling from the Supreme Court did nothing to allow discrimination. The act of discriminating in the country is still very illegal and can lead to legal challenges if done.
Instead, the ruling simply allows for a given person to decide whether or not to make a product. The woman in the case was not allowed to deny service to the customers because they are gay but was only allowed to not make the product they asked for because it was something she disagreed with.
Imperioli’s comments show just how unaware these people are of the reality around them and how much the media has misrepresented the case. The case has very little to do with LGBTQ rights despite what leftist outlets want you to believe. The same reason someone can deny making a cake featuring a swastika or a white supremacist symbol is the same reason that they can deny making a website for an LGBTQ-themed event.
Liberals seem to carry this idea that everything they like is good and moral and everything they dislike is immoral and evil, giving them a worldview of absolute correctness that is unchallengeable. Instead, these people should be taking a step back and absorbing the reality around them before they make stupid, uneducated comments like Mr. Imperioli. It’s okay to disagree with something, but it’s essential to know what is being disagreed on otherwise it’s just being ignorant.
