Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD) has finally made her endorsement for the 2024 election final, with reports coming out on Thursday that she would be endorsing Donald Trump for the upcoming election. The announcement will officially take place on Friday at a campaign rally in South Dakota.
As reported by Politico, she will introduce the former president at a fundraiser in Rapid City that is hosted by the state’s Republican Party. She is joining a growing list of Republicans that have openly supported Trump in the race such as Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH).
Noem has made comments on the race previously, seemingly always being a strong supporter of Trump. Back in August, she questioned why Republicans would run against Donald Trump if he has such a dominant hold on the race, per the DC Enquirer.
“Well, the fact is, none of them can win as long as Trump’s in the race. That is just the facts. So why run, if you cannot win? I’ve probably run 10 statewide races. I’ve won them all. I’ve never lost. If I get into a race, I’m gonna win. So that’s just how we do it," Noem said previously. "And President Trump did some great things for our state and for our country. As governor — and everybody should be grateful for this — he let me do my job. When he was president, he let me do my job, and I appreciate that. Biden doesn’t do that.”
She has also been a strong opponent of President Joe Biden, never shying away from a harsh array of words for the mentally aging president. Back in February, she told Biden to stop “acting like a dimwit in front of the whole world,” per the DC Enquirer.
Trump's upcoming speech in South Dakota is sure to turn heads and get headlines. Noem's endorsement, particularly as someone who is seen as a potential vice presidential pick, is good timing and will further bolster Trump's support in the Mount Rushmore state.
