'Happy To Help': President Trump Reveals Elon Musk Will Head 'Government Efficiency Commission' During Second Term

During a speech at the Economic Club of New York, 45th President Donald Trump announced that Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has agreed to head a government efficiency commission in a second Trump administration. The commission, recently proposed by Musk, would carry out "a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government" and make "recommendations for drastic reform." In addition to announcing the Efficiency Commission, Trump said he would support a 15 percent corporate tax rate for companies that made their products in the United States and rescind unspent funds allocated during the Biden-Harris administration.

"At the suggestion of Elon Musk, who had given me his complete and total endorsement... I will create a Government Efficiency Commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for drastic reforms," Trump said. "Need to do it. Can't go on the way we are now. And Elon, because he's not very busy, has agreed to head that task force."

Earlier in the week, Musk stated his interest in leading the commission, writing on X, "I'd be happy to help out on such a commission." On Thursday he posted, "I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises. No pay, no title, no recognition is needed."

Last month, Musk interviewed President Trump during a lengthy X Spaces conversation on the social media platform. During the discussion, the billionaire endorsed the former president, explaining that the country is at a "critical juncture." "I think we're at a fork in the road of the destiny of civilization, and I think we need to take the right path, and I think you're the right path," Musk said. "I think you [Trump] are the path to prosperity, and I think that Kamala is the opposite."

Musk's foray into the political arena has become more apparent in recent months after he endorsed Trump. The eccentric billionaire has repeatedly railed against Vice President Kamala Harris' policies on the economy and the southern border, telling his 196 million followers on X that Democrats have an incentive to maintain an open border and allow millions of illegal immigrants into America.

"The US Democratic Party as a whole has a massive incentive to bring in and legalize illegal immigrants, as they vote overwhelmingly Democrat," Musk wrote. "No grand conspiracy theory is needed. The simple incentive of winning elections explains why they won't even deport criminals who assault police officers on camera, because that would mean losing those votes." Musk pointed to comments made by Vice President Kamala Harris in recent years where she stated, "An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal."
