On Thursday, 45th President Donald Trump, during a visit to the US-Mexico border in Arizona, took time to highlight multiple families who have been devastated by so-called "migrant crime" by illegal immigrants allowed into the country by the Biden-Harris administration. The event, which featured heartfelt testimonies from families who have had their loved ones taken from them, was largely ignored by the Harris campaign except for a brief mention of former Trump official Tom Homan who the Harris campaign pointed out was an author for the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025.
During the event, Trump praised some of his former advisors, including Homan, who had advised him on border security. "I was listening to people like Tom Homan, who is an incredible patriot. Tough, smart, gets it. Good man, but he's tough," Trump said. "I've been listening to all these people. They've been friends of mine for a long time. They know [the border] better than anybody." In response to the brief remark, the Harris campaign, while failing to highlight anything else from the event, attempted to falsely smear Trump by insinuating he is linked to Project 2025. The Republican candidate has, on multiple occasions, explicitly rejected the policies plan created by the Washington, D.C.-based think tank.
In response to the post, the Trump campaign didn't hold back their condemnation of the Harris campaign's lack of empathy for the grieving families. "You people are truly disgusting. A grieving mom came to the border to speak about her daughter that was brutally killed by an illegal Kamala let into our country — and this is what you say in response?" Team Trump wrote on X. "Have you no conscious? Have you no shame?"
The Republican National Committee Research account also expressed frustration with the Harris HQ's post, writing, "How do you pathetic cowards sleep at night? A mother just spoke about losing her daughter — in the most brutal possible way — at the hands of an illegal Kamala let into the country — and this is what you have to say? Americans are sick and tired of your bullshit."
The Trump campaign event featured testimony from the families impacted by migrant crime. Those who appeared at the border with Trump include the families of Rachel Morin and Jocelyn Nungaray, as well as Amanda Kiefer. Rachel Morin from Maryland was a mother of five murdered by an illegal immigrant while on a jog in a Baltimore suburb. 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray from Houston was murdered earlier this year after a migrant was released into the country two months before her death. Lastly, Amanda Kiefer from San Fransisco suffered a fractured skull after being attacked in 2008 following then-District Attorney Kamala Harris' decision to release an illegal immigrant back onto the streets.
