During a recent podcast episode of 'On with Kara Swisher' released on Thursday, Rep. Alexandria Ocascio-Cortez (D-NY) stated that she is worried that presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump if he won the November presidential election, would throw her in jail.
"I mean, it sounds nuts, but I wouldn't be surprised if this guy threw me in jail," The New York progressive said. "He's out of his mind. I mean, he did his whole first campaign around 'lock her up.' This is his motto."
"I take him at his word when he says that he's going to round up people," she said. "I take him at his word when he threatens journalists. I take him at his word. I feel like what we saw in his first presidency was an amuse-bouche to what his intentions are. He has learned from his mistakes of appointing professionals, and he will not make that mistake next time."
While Trump has issued multiple statements on Truth Social demanding that members of the January 6 Committee be indicted, he has denied that his presidency will be defined by retribution. In a recent Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, Trump said that he's focused on saving the country.
"Number one, they're wrong," Trump said. "It has to stop because otherwise, we're not going to have a country. Look, when this election is over, based on what they've done, I would have every right to go after them, and it's easy because it's Joe Biden, and you see all the criminality, all of the money that's going into the family and him, all of this money from China, from Russia, from Ukraine."
Trump's denials of retribution haven't stopped other Democrats from worrying about facing vengeance if Trump takes office in January 2025. "My wife and I have had conversations about what life would look like if the worst happened," Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who routinely lied to the American people to push the Russia collusion conspiracy theory, said earlier this year. "You can't avoid the conversations about 'What if?' And I have to think about my own personal safety."
Another lawmaker who sat on the committee, House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Pete Aguillar (D-CA), explained to CBS that he takes Trump's threats seriously. He told reporters that if he was sent to a local D.C. jail, "My family has told me that they're going to come to D.C. either way—and they'll visit me, no matter where I am."
Democrats openly worrying about the possibility of Trump beating Joe Biden in November is a good sign for Trump supporters nationwide who long for a return to America First policies. A second Trump term will lead to a significant change in the country and the dismantling of the Democrat agenda that has been put in place under President Biden. AOC and other Democrats should be scared, not because they will be jailed, but because Trump will reverse their policies.
