Hunter Biden allegedly lied to Congress multiple times while testifying under oath, new documents revealed Wednesday by the House Ways and Means Committee appear to show.
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler provided over 100 pages of new evidence to the committee, which allegedly shows Hunter Biden wasn’t truthful at least three times in his sworn testimony on Feb. 28, according to a press release. The president’s son allegedly lied about communicating with a Chinese business associate; whether he controlled Rosemont Seneca Bohai and its associated bank account; and whether he worked to get a U.S. visa for the CEO of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy firm.
“Hunter Biden has shown once again he believes there are two systems of justice in this country – one for his family, and one for everyone else,” Chairman Jason Smith said in a statement. “Not only did Hunter Biden refuse to comply with his initial subpoena until threatened with criminal contempt, but he then came before Congress and lied. The Ways and Means Committee’s investigation, and the documents released today, are not part of a personal vendetta against Hunter Biden, but are meant to ensure the equal application of the law.”
Hunter Biden sent a threatening WhatsApp message to Raymond Zhao of CEFC — a Chinese firm — in July 2017 that read, “I’m sitting here with my father, and we would like to understand why the commitment has not been fulfilled,” according to whistleblower testimony. Months later, a CEFC affiliate channeled $5 million to Hudson West III, a company formed as part of a joint venture between Hunter Biden and CEFC’s Gongwen Dong, according to a bank record memorandum released by the House Oversight Committee.
President Joe Biden has repeatedly denied having any involvement in his son’s business dealings.
During his late-February testimony, Hunter Biden claimed to have sent the message to a different “Zhao,” not connected with the CEFC. However, phone records released by the House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday show that the president’s son was interacting with Raymond Zhao, according to the Ways and Means Committee.
Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s business associate, previously confirmed to the House Oversight Committee that he and the president’s son were equal owners of Rosemont Seneca Bohai. Hunter Biden was also the beneficial owner of Rosemont Seneca Bohai’s affiliated bank account, according to evidence provided by the IRS whistleblowers.
While Hunter Biden testified that neither were “under my control nor affiliated with me,” evidence provided by Ziegler shows he was the owner of the affiliated bank account, according to the committee. The committee also released a document where Hunter Biden signs, “I, Robert Hunter Biden, hereby certify that I am the duly elected, qualified and acting Secretary of Rosemont Seneca Bohai, LLC,” despite previously testifying that he “didn’t even know that there was such a thing” as a corporate secretary of Rosemont Seneca Bohai.
Hunter Biden also testified that he wasn’t willing to engage in “any work as it related to visas that they [Burisma] needed,” adding that he’d “never pick up the phone and call anybody for a visa.” Conversely, the new evidence released by the committee shows communication between Archer and Ukrainian associates suggesting Hunter Biden would help Burisma CEO Nikolay Zlochevsky secure a U.S. visa.
“Hunter is checking with Miguel Aleman to see if he can provide cover to Kola on the visa,” Archer wrote, with “Kola” serving as a reference to Zlochevsky, a newly unearthed email obtained by the committee shows. “Please send Hunter an email with all Kola’s passport and visa documents and evidence and copy me. We’ll take it from there.”
Further, emails previously reviewed by the Daily Caller from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop show that the president’s son attempted to obtain a visa for the Burisma CEO shortly after he became a board member of the Ukrainian energy firm.
Smith added that the new evidence suggests “the only witnesses who can be trusted to tell the truth in this investigation are the IRS whistleblowers.”
“Lying during sworn testimony is a felony offense that the Department of Justice has prosecuted numerous individuals for in recent years, and the American people expect the same accountability for the son of the President of the United States,” Smith said. “Hunter Biden’s lies under oath, and obstruction of a congressional investigation into his family’s potential corruption, calls into question other pieces of his testimony.”
