'I Do Have A Plan To Defeat Her': Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Responds To Reports He Tried To Trade Endorsement For Harris Cabinet Position

After Vice President Kamala Harris entered the presidential race at the top of the Democratic ticket last month, President Donald Trump hasn't been the only one having to adjust to the new landscape. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who was polling around 15 percent at one point in the race when Biden was still the nominee, has fallen substantially in the polls, and recent reports reveal a potential exit plan.

According to The Washington Post, RFK Jr. attempted to reach out to the Harris campaign to see if she would want his endorsement in exchange for dropping out and a promise for a position in her Cabinet if she won. The Harris campaign reportedly has not responded to the offer and has not shown interest in interacting with the former environmental lawyer turned presidential candidate. Kennedy allegedly attempted the same ploy with President Trump during a meeting in Milwaukee last month to try to land a position in a potential Trump administration as an advisor on health and medical issues.

Given his alleged attempt to exchange an endorsement for a role in the next administration from both candidates, Kennedy has gained the ire of Democrats. Democratic National Committee advisor Lis Smith told the outlet, "No one has any intention of negotiating with a MAGA-funded fringe candidate who has sought out a job with Donald Trump in exchange for an endorsement."

In an interview on Wednesday with The Post, Kennedy explained that the Harris campaign should be looking at every opportunity. However, he did not confirm that he was trying to get a meeting with the Democrats to discuss an endorsement. "From the beginning of this campaign, we were saying people should be talking to each other. That is the only way of unifying the country," he said. "I think it is a strategic mistake for them. That's my perspective. I think they ought to be looking at every opportunity. I think it is going to be a very close race."

Despite his comments to the Post, Kennedy made clear on Thursday that he was only interested in beating Kamala Harris rather than joining her. "VP Harris's Democratic Party would be unrecognizable to my father and uncle and I cannot reconcile it with my values," Kennedy wrote, adding the various contradictions between his positions as a Kennedy Democrat and her progressive positions.

"The Democratic Party of RFK and JFK was the party of civil liberties and free speech. VP Harris's is the party of censorship, lockdowns, and medical coercion. Kennedy Democrats were anti-war. Kamala's is riddled with neocon warmongers. The RFK/JFK dems were allies of Main Street, cops, firefighters, and working people," he wrote. "VP Harris's is the Party of Big Tech, Big Pharma and Wall Street. My dad and uncle's party was the champion of voting rights and fair elections. VP Harris's is the party of lawfare, disenfranchisement, and the coronation of its candidates by corporate donors and party elites."

"I've used our nation's courts to prosecute corporations who hurt Black Americans. VP Harris used our nation's courts to mercilessly prosecute Black Americans and exploit them for their labor. My father and uncle prided themselves on their skills at debate and their ability to articulate a coherent vision for our country. VP Harris is scared to debate and can't survive an unscripted interview," the indpendent candidate explained. "Instead of outlining a vision, she relies on middleschool tactics – memes, forged headlines, infantile slogans (Joy!) and name calling ('Republicans are weird.') I've spent years battling government corruption and lies. VP Harris spent years gaslighting Americans about the health of our Commander in Chief."

"I have no plans to endorse Kamala Harris for President. I do have a plan to defeat her," he added.
